Our Tutors
Virginia Maguire read English at UCL, and later went on to work as a lecturer in the English Department of a Thai university for five years. She gained Distinction in her MLitt in English Studies from Strathclyde University and published various articles on sociolinguistics and aspects of Thai culture while overseas. Before joining Westminster Tutors Virginia worked as Director of Studies at David Game College for four years, and she is also the founder and director of Uniprep, which provides specialist preparation for admission to highly competitive universities and degree courses such as Law and Medicine.
Virginia's mother took her A levels at Westminster Tutors, and it is therefore a great pleasure for Virginia to continue the College's long tradition of providing excellent teaching and the personal support which enables students to achieve their academic goals.
Odile Gillan - Vice-Principal
Odile Gillan studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, where she completed a degree in English, followed by a postgraduate certificate in 20th Century English Literature. She has taught French in this country for over 25 years to students of all ages and standards, ranging from nursery school to undergraduate level. She has two daughters, who both graduated from Oxford.
She has been teaching at Westminster Tutors since April 1998, and in 2003 she took on the position of Vice-Principal. One of her chief responsibilities is to offer advice and counselling to students. Although achieving excellent examination results is high on her list of priorities, her main concern is to help students gain confidence and reach their full potential.
Jane Darwin - Senior Tutor
Jane Darwin graduated in English from Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, and went on to do a B.Litt. She has lived in London, Bonn, New York and Brussels, where her husband was working for the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office. She has three children. She has taught English Literature at Westminster Tutors for over 30 years, and in 1993 she became Co-Principal with Peter Brooke. In 2000 she took semi-retirement, but continues to take an active interest in the College, teaching three days a week and acting as Senior Tutor.
