Manchester Cathedral will be singing the praises of a Bury company as the building battles against a spate of vandalism and break-ins.
For salvation is coming in the form of a new hi-tech surveillance and security system being installed by Absolute CCTV. Technical Director, Andrew Faulkner said: 'Manchester Cathedral has been regularly broken into and had security incidents when open. Therefore, a CCTV solution was required. This is to be used as a deterrant to potential thieves, but also to alert staff real time of any break-ins or incidents. The CCTV feeds will be recorded, ensuring that incidents can be viewed after the event.'

The work which Absolute CCTV is undertaking will be completed in three phases. And when the project is completed, Manchester Cathedral will be fitted with a total of 20 surveillance cameras which should significantly bolster the security of the building.

Mr Faulkner continued: 'When we heard about the vandalism and break-ins, our team contacted Manchester Cathedral and told them about our products and they were interested. Although we've done work with several mosques in the past, we've never worked on a project as prestigious as this. We're very pleased with the job.'

Absolute CCTV was launched by Andrew Faulkner and Sales Director Ben Speakman in June 2003 and the company embraces two offices in Walmersley Road. The company's core business is installing cutting-edge CCTV systems in commercial premises and residential properties and it specialises in full digital systems, employing a 13-strong staff.

A meeting to discuss how to improve overall security at Manchester Cathedral is to be held in the New Year. Cathedral staff are to meet police, council and local businesses after burglaries and vandalism forced insurance costs up to
